Batman first burst on the scene in comic book form in "The Case of the Chemical Syndicate" published in a 1939. Since then he has appeared in numerous movie and television episodes and become a familiar superhero character worldside.

Batman’s secret identity is that of Bruce Wayne who is a billionaire philanthropist with time on his hands. Having witnessed the murder of his parents as a young boy, he eventually puts his untold wealth to work fighting crime in Gotham City – a fictional American city probably more like New York City than any other. When action is called for, he dons his Batman Costume and heads for the Batmobile in the Bat Cave. He is transformed by his costume making this a favorite halloween theme.

Unlike other superheros, Batman does not possess any unique super powers of his own. He fights his battles intellectually bringing to bear the resources of his creative mind and physical prowess to overcome the forces of evil he encounters. He has the means to put science and technology to work in the form of advanced cars, communications, computers and the like.

More recently Batman has become known as the Caped Crusader, the Dark Knight as movie makers continue to respond to the demand for more Batman, more Robin and more of the villains he must deal with such as The Joker, Penguin, The Riddler, Two Face, Poison Ivy and Catwoman, among many others.
